These were just a few of my initial takeaways. Of course everyone will have their own experience. Use your judgement as to whether or not you want to share any of this with your team, as some of these thoughts might upset folks.
I personally think Greg’s experience with FITS reads like the trickster at play. Of course the trickster, or Hermes(whatever name you choose) would think it's fun to send Greg down a biblical rabbit hole and have him place all of his power outside of himself. Mama Sue as well, unfortunately. Were both Mama Sue and Greg religious before starting this project?
Hermes was also a Shepherd God…feels like we are his flock in this film. (I personally think Jesus is Hermes, so take all this with a bit of trickster salt. By that I mean, religion has transformed the Christ figure into one which robs believers of their personal power and autonomy and further represses with guilt and shame rather than the opposite.)
MMIWUSA- Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women- I noticed on the shot of the missing person flyer that this woman is indigenous and missing from near a reservation. I hope that there will be much more emphasis on this in the next film. I work with the Grand Portage Gichi Onigamami band of the Ojibwa Tribe in Northern Minnesota, and young women and girls there are frequently targeted and go missing due to human sex trafficking.
Cheesy, but interesting video discussing Gender, Capitalism and Witchcraft. Villainizing “Witchcraft” or just being a woman, or BIPOC, was essential to the creation of Capitalism. I’m personally interested in exploring these themes within the paranormal and am currently working on a series of paintings about a famous Old Colorado City Madame who was murdered by the Colorado Springs Police. She helped fund the building of my school, was friends with head mistress of the school (who was villainized because wore pants;) and is buried in the cemetery across the street.
